Have you ever wondered what it’s really like to live in an Essential Living building? Well now you can peek through your screen and find out. Roshni, who lives at Union Wharf, was kind enough to share an insight into life in Greenwich and answer a few of our questions.
What’s the one thing you love about renting?
I love the flexibility of renting and being able to live in different areas without being tied down. The residents team are also really helpful with any maintenance issues which is huge help and benefit of renting.
If you have rented before, how has Essential Living compared to previous landlords?
Essential Living prioritise customer needs first! It is such a relief to be renting with a company that organises events, goes out of their way to accommodate for residents and have such a friendly staff team. The little things go a long way!
How have you made the apartment your own?
I love to travel and collecting postcards from all the cities I visit. In my apartment, I’ve hung up postcards of different cities and it makes me look forward to travelling once things settles down after Covid-19. I also love lighting candles and making the apartment feel cosy especially in winter.
What do you enjoy cooking most in the kitchen?
I love cooking and experimenting with new recipes. The open plan kitchen in the apartment accommodates for cooking with friends or watching TV. Recently, I have been cooking risotto with orzo rice, tomato, and feta cheese. It is such a delicious meal to enjoy with a glass of wine on a chilly night in.
What are your most used features in your apartment, and why do you enjoy using them?
I love how the brightness of the lights in the flat can be adjusted. I love changing the brightness depending on how I’m feeling. It can completely change the vibe of the living room from a relaxed movie night to a bright dinner party. It’s the attention to detail that drew me to the flat.
And what amenity space do you enjoy using the most?
I love the rooftop in Collier Point on the 22nd floor. The views are breath-taking, and you can enjoy views of Central London, Canary Wharf and Greenwich Park. It is the best combination of city and nature views. I enjoy going upstairs to read a book, have a glass of wine or go early on a sunny Sunday morning for some breakfast.
What first drew you to the area?
Greenwich has so much to offer and I loved the idea of being close to central but being a bubble of our own. Greenwich has the city buzz on a busy day but also plenty of local spots to enjoy the ‘small village’ vibe. I also really enjoying going for a run around Greenwich Park. It is such a great way to detox and enjoy the wonderful views of Canary Wharf and Central London. The park itself is huge and there is a small lake, deer area and lots of hills. It’s a great way to enjoy some fresh air. I love taking the dogs, Coco and Luna for walk around the park too.
Would you recommend your local area? And if so, why?
I would definitely recommend Greenwich as a place to live. There’s so much to do and see around the area. It has the perfect blend between city views and nature. The Greenwich Market is a must-visit! They offer a wide range of different cuisines and lots of local, vintage shops. I also love walking on the Thames Path towards the 02. It’s a relaxing walk with beautiful views. Past Greenwich Park, there’s Blackheath Village which is a hidden gem! It’s so beautiful and picturesque. I love going there on weekends as it’s a nice escape from the city.
What do your residents team do for you, that you now can’t live without?
I am so grateful for the Residents team! They help me print all my resources and documents for work. It has been a dream especially since I am working from home, so I don’t need to worry about printing!
Do you like the location of the building, and if so why?
I absolutely love the building’s proximity to Greenwich Park! It’s such an effortless walk to the park where you’re able to walk dogs, ride bikes or go for a hilly run. It makes the weekends so relaxing knowing that you’re able to escape to the nature that Greenwich Park has to offer.
Are you part of the Facebook resident group? If you are, what do you like about being part of the community?
The Facebook group is a great way to stay up-to-date on what’s going on and to make new friends. I offered to walk my neighbour’s dogs, Coco and Luna and it has just been the best decision ever! It’s a great way to get to know the wider community and find mutual interests whether it be book swaps or dog play dates!
What event have you enjoyed the most?
I really enjoyed it when Crosstown Doughnut set up an ice-cream van in our reception. It was a lovely treat on a Friday evening and it made me value and look forward to the next pop-up event!
How do you feel about the building being pet-friendly?
I love how pet friendly the building is, I’ve been able to make lots of new furry friends. I’ve been dog-sitting my neighbours two little girls and it has been a dream. I love how you can take them downstairs to the garden area for a play or walk to Greenwich Park for a nice walk. They’ve also had sleepovers at my apartment and have been lovely additions to my work Zoom calls!
